What is ATA Carnet?
The acronym ATA was created by combining the French term “Admission Temporaire” and the English term “Temporary Admission”. The French word Carnet, or certificate in English is used as a term for indicating a temporary non-custom pass.
ATA Carnet is used between ATA members as a certificate that exempts them from providing custom documents and guarantee deposits normally required for importing, exporting, or for bonded transportation. In short, ATA members neither have to prepare additional customs documents required for clearance nor pay custom duties, surtax or guarantee deposits.
Using ATA Carnet guarantees prompt and smooth customs clearance in any of the ATA member nations.

Applicable Items
ATA Carnet supports various types of items including commercial samples, professional equipments and items that will be used in fairs or exhibitions overseas and re-imported to the original nation.
However, ATA Carnet does not support items that may decompose such as agro-products, foods, hazardous items, and consumables, and items specifically restricted by the host country.

Period of Credit
ATA Carnet is valid for 1 year at most from its issue, which cannot be extended.
In case the customs of a host country designates a re-exportation period for an item despite the period of credit of the ATA Carnet, the item shall be re-exported accordingly.

② Underlined nations are EU members and are categorized as a single nation for ATA Carnet.
